‘The Goldbergs’ Episode Guide (Oct. 7): A Father-Son Moment Goes Awry

“Jimmy 5 is Alive” (10/07/15) – Murray attempts to help Adam transition into adulthood by building a robot, but their creative differences drive them apart, the opposite of what Murray was trying to achieve.

Meanwhile, Barry makes a huge mistake when he accidentally tapes over Beverly’s beloved video of his 5th birthday party, on “The Goldbergs,” WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7 (8:30-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Guest starring in this episode are Bryan Callen as Coach Mellor, Sam Lerner as Geoff Schwartz, Noah Munck as Naked Rob and Matt Bush as Andy Cogan.

“Jimmy 5 is Alive” was written by Alex Barnow and directed by Lew Schneider.

The VCR-loving, mixtape-making, spandex-wearing Goldbergs are back! For geeky and movie obsessed youngest child Adam (Sean Giambrone), his wonder years were spent documenting the hilarious and awkward antics of his colorful family.

Mom, Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) is at her best when she’s meddling, matchmaking and bedazzling her way through life, while Dad, Murray (Jeff Garlin), parents from the comfort of his recliner in his underpants. Oldest sister, Erica (Hayley Orrantia), dreams of being a Pop Star if she can only overcome her secret love of all things uncool. Then there’s middle child, Barry (Troy Gentile), who’s just as in touch with his emotions as he is with his sick rap skills, which is how he landed Erica’s best friend and the hottest girl in school, Lainey (AJ Michalka) as his girlfriend.

Rounding out the brood is beloved grandfather, Al “Pops” Solomon (George Segal), the wild man of the clan, a shameless Don Juan who enjoys family time with his grandkids almost as much as his weekly massages. This season finds the siblings fighting off huggies, snuggies, and nubbies as they navigate what it means to grow up as a Goldberg.

“The Goldbergs” stars Wendi McLendon-Covey (“Bridesmaids”) as Beverly Goldberg, Patton Oswalt (“Ratatouille”) as adult Adam Goldberg, Sean Giambrone as Adam Goldberg, Troy Gentile (“Good Luck Chuck”) as Barry Goldberg, Hayley Orrantia (“The X Factor”) as Erica Goldberg, AJ Michalka as Lainey Lewis (Super 8), with George Segal (“Just Shoot Me”) as Pops Solomon and Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) as Murray Goldberg.

“The Goldbergs” was written by Adam F. Goldberg (“Breaking In,” “Fanboys”). Executive producers are Adam F. Goldberg, Doug Robinson, Alex Barnow, Marc Firek, David Katzenberg and David Guarascio. “The Goldbergs” is produced by Adam Sandler and Doug Robinson’s Happy Madison TV and Adam F. Goldberg Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television.
