‘The Circus’ Episode Guide (March 26): Allegations Trump’s 2016 Campaign Colluded With Russia

“Checking and Balancing” (03/26/17) – The second episode of the groundbreaking show’s new season, co-host Mark Halperin meets up with Senate Judiciary Committee veteran and the upper chamber’s longest-serving member Patrick Leahy before the Vermont Democrat cross-examines Trump’s Supreme Court pick, Neil Gorsuch, in his confirmation hearings.

Co-host John Heilemann talks to the House Intelligence Committee’s ranking Democrat, Adam Schiff, after FBI Director James Comey’s bombshell revelation of an ongoing investigation into suspected collusion between Team Trump and Russia to influence the 2016 election. And co-host Mark McKinnon catches up with South Carolina Republican congressman – and member of the pivotal House Freedom Caucus – Mark Sanford.

Later in the week, “The Circus” cameras capture the frantic scene when President Trump pays House Republicans a visit on their home turf, hoping to convince wary lawmakers to support the healthcare bill backed by House leadership and the White House.

Former Vice President Joe Biden visits the Hill as well, rallying his fellow Democrats to save the Affordable Care Act and speaking with Halperin and Heilemann on the steps of the Capitol. Halperin, Heilemann, and McKinnon take viewers behind the scenes as the House vote is unexpectedly postponed – and then again as the drama reaches its pitched and unpredictable climax.

“The Circus: Inside the Biggest Story on Earth” is hosted by New York Times bestselling co-authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann (Game Change and Double Down). “The Circus” is produced by Left/Right (a part of Red Arrow Entertainment Group) for Showtime. Mark Halperin, John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon, Banks Tarver, and Ken Druckerman serve as executive producers.
