Original Telefilm ‘Destination Wedding’ Premieres Tonight on Hallmark Channel

In the Hallmark original telefilm “Destination Wedding,” airing tonight at 9/8c, successful Los Angeles interior designer Ellie Hamilton’s (Alexa PenaVega) little sister Mandy (Andrea Brooks) just got engaged to Jason (Andrew Dunbar) and as Maid of Honor, Ellie eagerly helps plan a dream wedding in beautiful Acapulco, Mexico.

Six months later, and with the nuptials just a few days away, Ellie prepares to leave for the airport and can’t convince her boyfriend Alec (Preston Vanderslice) to come with her. Despite the importance of family and this family event to Ellie, Alec claims he’s too busy with work. But in reality, he doesn’t have an appetite for weddings – more specifically, the commitment – they bring.

Alec, however, expresses his uneasiness that Ellie’s ex-boyfriend and the Best Man Greg (Jeremy Guilbaut) will be there, but Ellie quickly dismisses his concerns. And despite how much Ellie’s dad (Fred Henderson) and Grandma Goldie (Paula Shaw) doubt her proclamation she’s over Greg, she reassures Alec he’s her future and Greg is her past.

As guests begin arriving in Acapulco, the celebratory festivities begin at the resort: a welcoming by a mariachi band, a poolside fiesta with dance lessons, and a day of golfing. Yet as the fun is in full swing, something is clearly missing: the bride and groom. As Maid of Honor and Best Man, Ellie and Greg are forced to work together to make last-minute decisions on food, flowers and the cake, all while stalling worried family and friends and hiding from them Mandy and Jason aren’t speaking.

As Ellie and Greg are paired up together to fill in for the missing bride and groom, they begin to spend more time with each other and they talk about their past: what went wrong and why they broke up. It seems everyone except them knows they’re meant for each other and even Ellie’s dad points out how strange it is when two people can’t see what’s so obvious to everyone else.

Ellie and Greg share a tender moment when he confesses he never stopped loving her and that he should have put a ring on her finger when he had the chance. Things get even more complicated when the day before the ceremony there’s still no sign of the bride and groom and it appears not only the wedding might be called off, but the old, submerged romantic feelings between Ellie and Greg resurface and take root again.

It’s when Alec arrives in Mexico unannounced that Ellie must decide if the thought of life with Alec seems perfect or the thought of life without Greg seems unbearable, realizing the meaning behind the local saying, “El amor siempre gana.” Love always wins.

“Destination Wedding” stars Alexa PenaVega (Ellie Hamilton), Jeremy Guilbaut (Greg Mount), Rafael Simon (Javier), Andrea Brooks (Mandy), Andrew Dunbar (Jason), Paula Shaw (Grandma Goldie), Fred Henderson (Thomas), Preston Vanderslice (Alec), Lakshmi Picazo (Jules), and Rodrigo Massa (AJ).

Anne Carlucci is the executive producer with Harvey Kahn as the producer. “Destination Wedding” was directed by James Head and written by Nina Weinman. A Front Street Picture in association with Anne Carlucci Productions is the production company.

The above press release was issued by Hallmark Channel.
