‘Meet the Press’ Episode Guide (Aug. 31): US Airstrikes Against ISIS; Russia-Ukraine Conflict

“Meet the Press” (08/31/14) – All eyes this week are abroad to the hotspots in Syria and Ukraine. We will hear exclusively from Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the Chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, about the potential US action, including the possibility for airstrikes against ISIS. Plus, a conversation with Chuck Todd, who debuts as moderator a week from Sunday. NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell serves as guest moderator.

With the increase of the terror level in Britain, should Americans be concerned about the safety of the homeland? What actions will the US take to defeat ISIS?

Joining the conversation include Gen. Anthony Zinni (Ret.), Fmr. Commander in Chief, US Central Command; Michele Flournoy, Fmr. Under Secretary of Defense for Policy; Michael Leiter, Fmr. Director of National Counterterrorism Center.

President Obama faces two tests of world leadership with the crisis in Ukraine and ISIS’s reign of terror in the Middle East. How will the U.S. respond? Can Congress — just back from a month-long break — come together on bipartisan ideas to address these two hotspots? Plus, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand writes about the shocking comments made by her male colleagues. Can we expect change out of these revelations?

This week’s roundtable guests includes Wes Moore, Afghanistan War Veteran; Dan Henninger, Deputy Editorial Page Director, Wall Street Journal; Ruth Marcus, Columnist, Washington Post; Doris Kearns Goodwin, Presidential Historian.

Also this morning, NBC News Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel will provide an update on the threat of ISIS.
