‘Madam Secretary’ Episode Guide (Oct. 22): Elizabeth Tries to Fund an Electrical Grid in a Syrian Refugee Camp

“The Essentials” (10/22/17) – With a government shutdown looming, Elizabeth must think outside the box to help fund an electrical grid in a Syrian refugee camp, before riots break out in the country due to the lack of electricity and water. Also, Henry searches for Dmitri when he goes missing, on “Madam Secretary,” Sunday, Oct. 22 (10:30-11:30 PM, ET/10:00-11:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.

“The Essentials” was written by Matt Ward and directed by Charlotte Brandstrom.

Guest starring in this episode are Michael Gaston (CIA Director Hugh Haymond), Ethan Peck (Roman Tolliver), Christine Chang (Shindy), Sandra Daley (Adele Steele), Masha King (Talia Petrov), José Zúñiga (Senator Carlos MoreJon), Peter Ganim (Samir Nassif), Brian Tarantina (Motel Manager), Mario Bosquez (News Anchor), Modi Rosenfeld (Oded Dahan), Roderick Hill (Sean Bryant), Rosa Evangelina Arredondo (Valeria Castillo), and Becca Q. Co (Yoga Instructor).

CBS’s “Madam Secretary” stars Téa Leoni as Elizabeth McCord, the shrewd, determined Secretary of State who drives international diplomacy, battles office politics and circumvents protocol as she negotiates global and domestic issues, both at the White House and at home.

A college professor and a brilliant former CIA analyst who left for ethical reasons, Elizabeth returned to public life at the request of President Conrad Dalton, who values McCord’s apolitical leanings, deep knowledge of the Middle East, flair for languages and ability to not just think outside the box, but to not even acknowledge there is a box. McCord’s team includes chief of staff Nadine Tolliver; policy advisor Jay Whitman; speechwriter Matt Mahoney; press coordinator Daisy Grant; and charming assistant, Blake Moran.

As McCord debates third world problems, finesses foreign dignitaries at work and does battle with the president’s combative chief of staff, Russell Jackson, that’s just a warm-up for when she goes home to her supportive husband, theology professor turned intelligence operative Henry, and their three children, where “politics” and “compromise” take on new meaning.

“Madam Secretary” stars Téa Leoni (Elizabeth McCord), Tim Daly (Henry McCord), Bebe Neuwirth (Nadine Tolliver), Željko Ivanek (Russell Jackson), Keith Carradine (President Conrad Dalton), Sebastian Arcelus (Jay Whitman), Patina Miller (Daisy Grant), Geoffrey Arend (Matt Mahoney), Erich Bergen (Blake Moran), Kathrine Herzer (Alison McCord), Wallis Currie-Wood (Stephanie “Stevie” McCord), and Evan Roe (Jason McCord).

“Madam Secretary” is produced by CBS Television Studios, in association with Revelations Entertainment. It is executive produced by Barbara Hall, Lori McCreary, David Grae, Eric Stoltz and Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman. The series was created by Barbara Hall.
