‘Madam Secretary’ Episode Guide (April 17): Elizabeth Gives at Speech at the UN in New York

“Ghost Detainee” (04/17/16) – After Elizabeth delivers her first speech to the United Nations General Assembly formally condemning the terrorist group Hizb-al Shahid, she discusses forming a coalition against them with the Russian Foreign Minister.

However, the talks create a conflict of interest between Elizabeth and Henry, who is searching for a way to save Dmitri’s ill sister, Talia Petrov, from the Russian government, on “Madam Secretary,” Sunday, April 17 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Scenes in this episode were filmed on location at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

Guest starring in “Ghost Detainee” are Jill Hennessy (Jane Fellows), Carlos Gomez (Jose Campos), Dina Shihabi (Hijriyyah), Kobi Libii (Oliver Shaw), Clifton Davis (Ephraim Ware), Jacqueline Antaramian (Laila Ayyad), Yasen Peyankov (Russian Foreign Minister Konstantin Avdonin), Armand Schultz (Alex Jones), David Garrison (Phil Shepherd), Dusty Brown (Mitch), Michele Pawk (Dr. Susan Klein), Cat Anderson (News Anchor), and Mariam Habib (Female Translator).

“Ghost Detainee” was written by Moira Kirland and directed by Charlotte Brandstrom.

“Madam Secretary” stars Téa Leoni as Elizabeth McCord, the shrewd, determined, newly appointed Secretary of State who drives international diplomacy, battles office politics and circumvents protocol as she negotiates global and domestic issues, both at the White House and at home.

A college professor and a brilliant former CIA analyst who left for ethical reasons, Elizabeth returns to public life at the request of the President following the suspicious death of her predecessor. The President values her apolitical leanings, her deep knowledge of the Middle East, her flair for languages and her ability to not just think outside the box, but to not even acknowledge there is a box.

McCord’s team includes her Chief of Staff Nadine Tolliver, speechwriter Matt Mahoney, press coordinator Daisy Grant and her charming assistant, Blake Moran. As McCord debates third world problems, finesses foreign dignitaries at work and does battle with the President’s combative Chief of Staff Russell Jackson, that’s just a warm-up for when she goes home to her supportive husband Henry and their three children, where “politics” and “compromise” take on new meaning.

“Madam Secretary” also stars Tim Daly (Henry McCord), Bebe Neuwirth (Nadine Tolliver), Željko Ivanek (Russell Jackson), Geoffrey Arend (Matt Mahoney), Patina Miller (Daisy Grant), Erich Bergen (Blake Moran), Kathrine Herzer (Alison McCord), Evan Roe (Jason McCord), Wallis Currie-Wood (Stephanie “Stevie” McCord), and Keith Carradine (President Conrad Dalton).
