‘Blood & Oil’ Episode Guide (Dec. 13): Billy Forced to Choose Between Oil and His Wife

“Departures” Season 1 Finale (12/13/15) – Christmas is a time for coming together, but for the Lefevers, it’s a time of difficult choices.

Billy faces an ultimatum to either save his marriage by leaving Rock Springs forever or to stay in the oil game alone while Cody experiences temptation in the form of another man.

With the Black Elks land deal slipping away, Annie and Hap consider doing the unthinkable – joining forces to help secure this once-in-a-lifetime oil acquisition. Fearing the fate of his son, AJ enlists Tip to help bring the child to safety.

And finally, another father-and-son relationship is pushed to its limits when Hap and Wick finally lay it all out on the table at the Briggs Christmas Eve gathering, on the season finale of “Blood & Oil,” airing SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Guest starring in this episode are Peyton List as Emma Lundegren, Lolita Davidovich as Annie Briggs, Tara Karsian as Van Ness, JD Pardo as Dr. Alex White, Kimberly Guerrero as Elaine Whitecloud, Marlinda Money as Nurse, Pam Eichner as Woman, Robert Milo Andrus as Busboy, Adrian Perez as Khalid, Jeffrey David Anderson as Saudi Man and Austin Archer as Swat Member.

“Departures” story by Jon Harmon Feldman, teleplay by Nicholas Schutt and David Renaud, and directed by Andrew Bernstein.

Billy (Chace Crawford) and Cody Lefever (Rebecca Rittenhouse) are a young, recently married couple with dreams bigger than their working-class upbringing. Following the largest oil discovery in American history, they pack up and move from their small town in Florida to the wild boomtown of Rock Springs, North Dakota, where a millionaire is made every day. Intent on exploiting the local commerce, they plan to open a humble laundromat, which they’ve financed by raising money from friends and family. After arriving, they quickly realize Rock Springs is a modern day gold rush where people just like them are flocking in droves, all fueled by dreams of striking it rich.

Hap Briggs (Don Johnson) is the Baron of the Bakken of North Dakota and a legend in the oil business. His wife, Carla (Amber Valletta), brings a sophistication and worldliness to the oil fields, and is every bit Hap’s equal in legacy building. As the boom reaches new heights, Hap is determined to prove he is not just a rich man, but a great man, willing to play a little dirty to get what he wants.

After a rough start getting settled in Rock Springs, Billy becomes eager to cash in on the new world that surrounds him. When he makes a go of trying his hand in the oil business, he crosses paths with the Briggs as they embark on expanding their empire into new territory. Tangling with titans is not for the faint of heart, and when Billy bets big, it causes Cody to question his intentions, and ultimately their marriage. Is this their American dream, or unchecked ambition?

Along the way, Billy meets Wick Briggs (Scott Michael Foster), Hap’s son and heir to the family fortune. But Wick isn’t the man his father is, and reveals the grittiness and corruption behind the wealthy sheen. Unwilling to play by the rules, Wick is in bed with all the wrong types of people, including Jules (India de Beaufort), a beautiful and resourceful owner of the local bar who knows how to use her assets to her benefit. With all of these different agendas from all walks of life packed into this small North Dakota town, the local Sheriff, Tip Hamilton (Delroy Lindo), has the thankless job of trying to maintain peace and order in this modern day new frontier.

“Blood & Oil” is an epic story of the American dream as seen through the lens of a speculative mania, riding up the boom and eventual bust, and back up again. Filled with family rivalries, pure ambition, and characters that represent the authentic diversity of a boomtown, the series tells its story against a visual landscape of astonishing natural beauty and a human landscape that is as complex and combustible as the oil they are chasing.

“Blood & Oil” stars Don Johnson (“Miami Vice,” “Nash Bridges”), Chace Crawford (“Gossip Girl”), Rebecca Rittenhouse (“Red Band Society”), Amber Valletta (“Hitch”), Scott Michael Foster (“Greek”), Adan Canto (“Mixology”), India de Beaufort (“Jane by Design”), and Delroy Lindo (“Gone in 60 Seconds”).

“Blood & Oil” was created and written by Josh Pate and Rodes Fishburne. Executive producers are Pate, Cynthia Cidre, Tony Krantz and Don Johnson. “Blood & Oil” is produced by ABC Signature Studios.
